Jump-Up Certificate Details

  • Jump the rate up to one time per term – You're covered when dividend rates go up or down. If rates for the Jump-Up Certificate go up after you open the account, you can jump up to the higher rate for the rest of the term. You decide when. You get one more chance to jump up during each term you renew. Regular, Jumbo, and IRA Jump-Up Certificates are available.
  • Low $500 minimum to open
  • Terms for 15 and 27 months are available – Dividends are compounded daily and credited monthly.
  • Multiple dividend payment options – You can leave your dividends in the account so they compound or you can have them transferred to your DCU Savings Account each month or at maturity.
  • Automatic renewal saves time – If you want to keep the same term when your Certificate renews, there is nothing you need to do. If you want to make any changes, you can easily let us know through Account Manager in Online Banking.
  • Free online, mobile, and branch access – You can view and access your certificate anytime by logging into Online Banking from your computer, Mobile Banking with your smart phone or iPad, or by visiting any DCU branch.
  • Federally insured to $250,000 by NCUALearn more about insurance on all your savings at DCU and how to maximize your coverage.

Certificate Account rates are subject to change weekly; but the rate will remain in effect for the term of the certificate once issued. Funds earn dividends from the first business day of deposit through the day of withdrawal, are compounded daily, and posted monthly. "Penalties" apply for early withdrawals. Refer to DCU's Truth-in-Savings Disclosures and Account Agreements, Schedule of Fees and Service Charges and Certificate Account Disclosure and Agreement.

Annual Percentage Yield (APY) is a figure calculated using a federally-mandated formula. It's designed to help you compare the return you'll get in a uniform way between the certificate, savings, and money market accounts offered at various institutions. It tells you at what percentage your money will grow in one year at the same dividend rate – including the effects of compounding. For example, the APY on a 6-Month Certificate would be what you earned at the end of a year if you renewed your certificate once, did not add to or subtract from the balance along the way, nor withdrew any dividends.

Early Certificate Closing Penalties

Length Penalty
3-11 months 60 days' dividend
12-35 months 90 days' dividend
36-60 months 180 days' dividend

The same penalties apply on amounts prematurely withdrawn from a Certificate. IRS penalties may apply on IRA Certificate withdrawals. Jump-Up Certificate early withdrawal penalties will be calculated at the rate being earned at the time of withdrawal.

Jump-Up Certificate Accounts is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Manage Online I have tried other banks' online tools, and DCU outshines them all. Very intuitive tools that allow you to securely open and close savings and certificates and other accounts. The Certificates show up on my DCU statement quickly and are a much less stressful way to grow than the current stock market! No local branches near me, so I rely on the website.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rates changes & Jump up Certificates I would love to see DCU send out an alert when the rates increase. While I do check my accounts often, the screen which has the current CD rates is not easy to check since I need to return to the home site before doing so. With all the room on the screen, why not list the rates each time I log in.

Jump up certificate

How do I jump rates? Does this happen automatically?
Asked by: AFM
Yes..Automatic..After your Certificate Expiration date. You ha a choice to cancel before de date.

Can I take a small amount out without penalty?

Asked by: Lisa
No. When you open a Certificate of Deposit, you dedicate those funds to the bank for a specified period of time. At the end of that time, you can either decide to re-enroll (automatic) or take your funds plus the interest back out. They will charge you a penalty for closing the CD early. 3-11 months early costs you 60 days' dividend 12-35 months costs you 90 days' dividend 36-60 months costs you 180 days' dividend So, yes you always can take your money out, but you are violating your contract with them, so it will cost you. When you close a certificate, you can use their online tool, you CAN take out a small amount, such as "only the dividends", or a specific dollar figure of your choice. But penalties will be charged.

Do you earn both the dividend rate plus the APY? So basically the 1.18dividend +1.19APU=2.27 percent paid to me?

Asked by: Zane
You would earn the dividend rate on the account, however the dividends earned on the account will be considered your balance and earn dividends the following month.
