Get big protection in a tiny chip –
Introducing EMV card technology for DCU
DCU Visa® Platinum, Platinum Rewards Credit Card, and Debit Cards now come with chip technology built right in. This tiny chip protects your information in a big way.
Count on enhanced fraud protection. When you use your card at a chip-activated terminal, the embedded chip generates a unique transaction code. This prevents stolen data from being fraudulently used.
EMV cards have been the preferred card payment method in most of the world for over a decade. After many years of planning, the United States is moving to make this a standard throughout the country.
It's easy to pay with your chip-enabled card:
- Insert the chip end of your card into the terminal with the chip facing up.
- Keep your card in the terminal and follow the prompts on screen.
- Remove your card when prompted and sign your receipt.
Q: How can I request a chip-enabled DCU Visa Platinum Credit Card or Debit Card?
A: We will automatically send you a chip-enabled card when your current card expires. If you would like to receive your chip-enabled card before your current card expiration date, you can contact us to request one today.
Q: Can I pick up a new chip-enabled card at a DCU branch?
A: Yes. Any DCU Branch can issue a chip-enabled card for your DCU Platinum Credit Card or Debit Card.
Q: How does chip technology protect my information?
A: Every time you use your card at a chip-activated terminal, the embedded chip generates a unique transaction code. This prevents stolen data from being fraudulently used.
Q: What's the difference between an EMV card and a chip/chip-enabled card?
A: They all mean the same thing and refer to the plastic cards with an embedded chip.
Q: What should I do with my old DCU Visa Platinum Credit Card or Debit Card?
A: Once you activate your new card, please destroy your old card for security reasons.
Q: How do I pay at a chip-activated terminal?
A: It's easy to make purchases with your chip-enabled credit card. Simply insert the chip end of your card into the terminal with the chip facing up. Leave your card in the terminal and follow the prompts on screen. Remove your card from the terminal when prompted, then sign for your purchase and take your receipt.
Q: Can I still swipe my card to pay?
A: Yes. If a merchant doesn't have a chip-enabled card terminal yet, you can still use the magnetic stripe on the back to swipe your card.
Q: Has my card information changed?
A: For your convenience, your card number has not changed. Your card may have a new expiration date and CVV code, so be sure to update your information with billers that charge your card regularly.
Q: Does my new card have all the same benefits?
A: Yes. You can count on the same level of benefits you always have.
Q: Can I still earn rewards with my new DCU Visa Platinum Rewards card?
A: Yes. You can keep receiving the same great rewards you always have.
