Credit Bureaus Announce How Consumers Can Access Free Credit Reports

By Remar Sutton, DCU StreetWise Spokesperson
The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act amended the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) to require that consumers receive one free credit report from each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies (Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union) every 12 months. To comply with this law, the credit bureaus have setup a web address—www.annualcreditreport.com, toll-free telephone number—877-322-8228 and postal address for consumers to use to request their reports.
To use the postal address, complete the Annual Credit Report Request Form (available at www.ftc.gov/credit) and mail it to: Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281.
These addresses are the only way to get your free annual credit report. Watch out for any other service that says they can help you get them.
