Blindness and Visual ImpairmentsAmerican Council of the Blind is a national organization whose purpose is to improve the quality of life for persons who are blind and visually impaired. Membership in the organization is not limited to blind or visually impaired persons. The site has the current and back issues of their monthly publication, The Braille Forum. Also provided is the ACB Radio Station, information about their affiliates, ACB Job Bank, and some helpful resources.
National Federation of the Blind is a consumer and advocacy organization. The site provides sections on employment and training, services and resources, aids and appliances, and publications.
Guide Dogs
Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind provides guide dogs free of charge. They provide training, transportation to and from the school, room and board during the 25-day training program, and after-care services.
Guiding Eyes for the Blind provides guide dogs free of charge including training and life-long follow-up.
The Seeing Eye provides guide dogs for a very low fee, $150 the first dog and $50 for each successor dog. This is a fraction of the total cost to create a match between person and dog, this fee reflects The Seeing Eys's commitment to enhanced independence.
