Assistance ResourcesStudent assistance can be provided in class and out of class in numerous ways. It can take various forms of non-technology, low technology, or high technology devices, services and strategies. Support is tailored to each individual. The ATA Related Links section on The Alliance for Technology Access (ATA) site has links to web sites related to technology and disability including assistive technology vendors. The site has other resources including an online edition of Computer and Web Resources for People with Disabilities and Family Place in Cyberspace.
ABLEDATA provides information on assistive technology and rehabilitation equipment. They are sponsored by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR). The product database contains detailed descriptions of thousands of products, including price, manufacturer and distributor information. You can search the database by keyword, product type, brand name, or company. Here is a sample of a few sections that can be found under product type:
assistivetech.net provides information on assistive technology products. Search the assistive technology database by function/activity, keyword,
product type or vendor. Education categories under product type include cognitive/behavioral, community/lifeskills, general, literacy/language, math/science, and social sciences. Each of these categories list software and teaching aids. Literacy/language includes dictionaries/reference tools, english as a second language (ESL), reading software and writing software. Math/science includes calculators, graphing and notation software, and measurement devices.
