DCU CashPak
Prepare your 17 to 22 year old child for managing finances at school, work, or home
|
| What's CashPak all about? |
- Helping young adults manage their finances
- Preparing young adults for their after school financial lives
- Giving parents tools to help their children away at college or at their jobs
If your son or daughter is heading for college next semester, tuition, books, and fees are only the beginning. Or if they're at home or in an apartment working they need to financially plan. They'll need to start budgeting for food, supplies, a computer, clothes, entertainment, and maybe even a car.
CashPak gives you ways to give your child (age 17 to 22) convenient access to their funds. At the same time, they'll learn how to use the financial products they'll need as adults.

| How CashPak can help your child |
|
| How parents and children may use it together |
Discuss finances with your child. How do they plan to handle their money? If you both agree your child will benefit from more involvement and counseling from you, CashPak can be set up to assist you. Here are some options you and your child have...
Joint account ownership
When your child sets up CashPak with them as the primary owner and you as a joint owner, you both have
access to the funds in the checking account and any other savings accounts you jointly set up. Monthly statements will go to your child, but both of you will be able to see the account information and make transactions on PC Branch, ATMs, and Easy Touch Telephone Teller. This access allows you to...
- Simultaneously view account information If your child has questions about their accounts and how
they are spending their money, it's easy for you to discuss it and offer advice. Even if you are in different cities, you both can look at the same account information on PC Branch. They will see only their information when they log into PC Branch (unless you have them set up as a Joint Owner on your accounts). You will see their information in addition to your own accounts. You can also use this tool to talk about budgeting, balancing accounts, and maximizing dividends on savings.
- Replenish their funds Some parents work with their child to establish a budget, particularly if they are providing the child's spending money away at school. If you and your child agree to do this, you'll be able to make transfers from your own accounts to your child's account using PC Branch. These accounts can be set up as weekly, biweekly, twice monthly, or monthly Automatic Transfers or you can do individual transfers at any time. Visit our PC Branch and log on with your member number and password. Select Demo for information on setting up Automatic Transfers.
Cross-Account Transfers
Setting up Cross-Account Transfer access gives your child greater independence in managing their finances than Joint Ownership. You cannot view their balances or transaction activity. You cannot move money out of their accounts.
You can conveniently move money into your child's accounts or assist with loan payments using PC Branch or Easy Touch Telephone Teller transfers and loan payments. As with joint access, you can set up weekly, biweekly, twice monthly, or monthly Automatic Cross-Account Transfers. You must fill out the Cross-Account Transfer Form located in PC Branch under Secure Forms to use this function.
